Planting Season is here!

So I go out to my garden boxes and worked the soil up to a lovely fine mulch.  Then decided because it is half ways decent out weather wise, I would pop some vegetables in the ground.  Of course I had to run to the store because I did not have any fresh seeds on hand.  I picked up three different varieties of lettuce, 2 kinds of onions and a package of carrots.

Then I started to work planting everything.  I was able to get about four (4) rows of each kind of lettuce, about 5 – 6 rows of carrots and and 4 rows of each kind of onions.

I then decided to check out the Strawberry plants and low and behold, there are blooms and even strawberries growing.  That can only mean one thing – I will have strawberries soon.

In some respects, I wish I had a much larger garden to put in all sorts of vegetables and berries but  I  have to look at it this way too – It is more work for me.

I also worked out in the front yard pruning roses and pulling weeds.  Then took the sprinkling hose and set it around all the plants in my front flower garden before I decide to get mulch or rocks.

And of course after the fact, I go and check out the Farmers Almanac planting schedule to see if it was a planting day for root vegetables.   Missed it by one day tomorrow is suppose to be a better day but then I planted my tomato seeds by the Farmers Almanac calendar and they are struggling to reach 6 inches tall.  So I really don’t think it matters that much but I wanted to get the veggies in before it rained.

Another thing I haven’t done in years is plant the slicing onions from seed.  Usually I use onion sets but decided I would try the seeds this time.

Well, Until next time Think Summer and Farmers Market.
