According to Wikipedia here is how Earth Day got started:
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.
In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace, to first be celebrated on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. This day of nature’s equipoise was later sanctioned in a Proclamation written by McConnell and signed by Secretary General U Thantat the United Nations. A month later a separate Earth Day was founded byUnited States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. Nelson was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in recognition of his work.
There are several ways to celebrate Earth Day. Earth Day is a good time to clean up especially if you had a hard winter. You might of had trees that died because of the cold weather that need cut down or the same with bushes. How about if you had too much snow or rain and there are broken limbs and leaves all over the place. Earth Day is just a great time to clean up and spruce up. And WOW when you get done everything looks fabulous and pretty. Now the weatherman says it is going to be high of 61, no rain but windy so you can get out and plant something to celebrate EARTH DAY 2015. Or not into planting? How about recycling old books, newspapers, jars, glasses, or any other thing you don’t want anymore. You can donate it or have a garage sale and get extra money to buy more stuff. Have a Great Earth Day !
Until Tomorrow where we might talk about growing your veggies again. Oh my lettuce is up and growing.
